Residents confront robbers in Abuja community, kill one, apprehend two
Residents of Aleyita, Lugbe, in the Federal Capital Territory, have put a halt to a robbery attempt on their community and caught three of the perpetrators.
The burglars assaulted the neighborhood in the early hours of Sunday, March 20, according to Punch, but left when residents banded together and confronted them.
Last week, a team of thieves stormed Chika Phase 3, an adjacent street, and robbed people of their mobile phones, television sets, and cash, among other things, according to Hakeem Azeez, an Aleyita resident.
One of the suspects perished in a confrontation with residents, according to Azeez.
"They showed up at 6 a.m., jumping from one house to the next. One of them was strolling on people's roofs, and it looked like something out of a movie. They had robbed the other street last week, taking phones and other valuables with them. "We knew they'd come back, and they did," he explained.
"One was apprehended while attempting to flee with some of the stolen goods. Two more were arrested after a heated pursuit.
"Instead of surrendering, one of those they went to rob engaged them; they ran as other locals joined them; but one stuck around and tried to fight them. He was, however, overpowered, and he died as a result. I'd like to appeal to the police to conduct a thorough investigation and apprehend others. The assault on our neighborhood has gotten out of hand."
