Police officer who mourned his colleague and friend killed in Ghana bullion van robbery turns out to be one of the robbers

                               Osei and Ansah

Constable Emmanuel Osei, one of the rogue police officers arrested in connection with the spate of bullion van thefts that shocked Ghana last year, had been slain during one of the attacks.

On Monday, June 14, 2021, while transporting money in a bullion truck, Constable Osei, 25, was shot and killed by armed thieves in Adedenkpo, a suburb of James Town in Accra.

Constable Reindolph Gyimah Ansah nicknamed Pablo, a friend and coworker, was one of the criminals that ambushed a bullion vehicle.

Weeks after his death, Ansah came to Facebook to mourn Osei, writing: "U still dey in ma heart forever. Your soul will be guided by Allah. Osei, rest in peace."

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, Constable Ansah and one of the rogue officers, Lance Corporal Stephen Kwaku Nyame, were shot and killed during a raid at Borteyman near Ashaiman.

The two officers were supposed to appear in court with others on March 9, 2022, but they were forced to lead a group of other officers in a raid on the other suspects' hiding.

The two criminal police officers were gunned down during a gun war between officers and criminals at the aforementioned location, and were pronounced dead on arrival at the police hospital where they were sent for treatment.

The two suspects were apprehended to help the police to a site at Borteyman near Ashaiman, according to the Director-General of Police Public Affairs, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Mr. Kwesi Ofori.

"And an intelligence-led field operation took off, and in the process, there was a heavy exchange of fire, and the two sustained gunshot injuries and were taken to the police hospital in Accra, but they later passed away," Mr Kwesi Ofori said in a radio interview on Accra's Joy FM on Wednesday morning, March 9, 2022, which was monitored by Graphic Online.

"The cops were shot at, there was an exchange of fire, they were hurt in the process, they were taken to the hospital, and they passed," he continued.

"So let us realize that police operations are high-risk in nature," Mr Ofori said. "At the time the raid took place, it was a very serious and well-targeted operation, and even as I speak to you, we've arrested four police officers and one civilian, and they'll be brought before the court."
